Weight isn't just about starving yourself into thinness. There are so many diets that claim to help you loose weight easily-you end up giving them up and often gaining more weight than before. Surely it should be natural for you to be at your correct body weight and health-or is it?

For those who compulsively over eat there is often an underlying emotional problem. Many of us comfort eat rather than eating to sustain health and energy.

Eating and putting on weight can be an unconscious need for protection.

One woman who had been sexually assaulted became a compulsive over eater and gained massive amounts of weight. This turned out to be an unconscious device to build a wall around her and make her less attractive so that chances of any future assault were unlikely to occur.

So as you can see some people use the effects of overeating for self protection, or the prevention of future hurt.

Often overeating and overweight problems are simply a result of family habitual overeating and as the children grow up in that environment they eat more than they really need.

Also when we were growing up, food might have become such an important issue that we may have created an unconscious belief that equates food to love and acceptance and don't we all want that?

There are many reasons in the mind for people being heavier than they would like to be. But whatever the reason, hypnosis and hypnotherapy can help uncover the root of the problem and then help release, resolve or adapt new more healthy and vibrant eating habits.

Of course there are also sensible practical issues: exercise can help you become the shapely person you long to be. It doesn’t have to be violent power exercise. Taking a frequent enjoyable walk in the countryside. Taking the stairs rather than the lift, parking further away from the entrance to your work or the shops, walking by the sea or in the country at weekends or buying a book on Chi Gung and doing some of the lovely stretching exercises.

One other useful thing to do is to learn more about the foods that you eat; there are very nice foods that are low on calories and high in nutrients that you can replace the unnecessarily high calorie foods with.

Also being able to feel confident about whatever you do, can contribute to better healthier lifestyle and help you move forward to more enjoyable experiences.

I earlier mentioned the unconscious mind. In hypnosis, your unconscious is revealed and can be refilled with positive motivations, encouragement, and feelings of success and happiness whilst negative programmes can be adjusted.
